My greetings card

Once I had completed both my type and the design for my greetings card I thought I would have a play with the colour again to see what my preference was on the look of the cards in opposite colours, After a lot of frustration, I concluded that each card had strengths and weaknesses. The corpse bride looked better against the black whereas the type is a lot clearer as black against red. This is where I thought about playing to the strengths of each one.

In order to comply with the brief, by putting my typeface into context I have decided to design a greetings card. I dismissed the white on black and thought then about traditional colours used for Halloween and I concluded that black and red would be the best combination for my design.

My Typeface

This is where I began to see where I was going with my work. I explored with the filling of the letter and I thought that a Halloween theme may be appropriate for this particular typeface. I used the guide to draw each letter and then using Photoshop I used the best letter of each repeated letter and copied them so that no same letter will look different, giving it a stronger, more together looking appearance. Half filled text adjusted

After looking at different styles of my own handwriting I decided that the typeface I wanted to create was one that I had taken some care in writing out, although the type looks flawed despite every intention being to make it look neat, I thought that the irony worked as a strength. Although it is a style that should look perfect, it doesn’t, making it quite unlike existing typefaces. After writing it out I filled in in and compare the new filled in type to the hollow one I had started with. Which got me thinking about what I was going to use to put my type into context and I came to the conclusion that my type did not have to be completely filled in to make it, I could play around with it as I decide what I want to do with it.
